Clara Barton (1821-1912) became well known for her work as a nurse on the battlefields during the Civil War. Her love of charity and dedication to medicine inspired her to create the American Red Cross. Clara Barton is a popular character at schools, especially for 5th and 8th graders studying the Civil War. Carol has performed Clara Barton for Civil War organizations, American Red Cross chapters, libraries and churches.
